THE BLESSING

SEEN Series 2024

What does it mean to feel SEEN? In this series of sculptures and oil paintings I explore the inner world of our many parts. Parts unintentionally left unseen. Parts dismissed by ourselves and others as we keep the pace. A pace that tunes out softness, the flutter of a hummingbird, or the pale lavender glow surrounding the moon. A child beaming in awe. What treasures have been held out in their hands? Do we see or just look? Have we knelt down to our own treasures? Or does the softness scream itself into neck pain, heart palpitations, insomnia, or a migraine? Even then, our body patiently waits and warns. Waiting for the slow down, the seat of the seer. Do we know how? How to listen before the symptom? Do we remove the wine, change the job, or sit under the pines? Could one believe it be as simple as listening? Simple as a body in sync with a wave? Simple as deep earthing? What if being SEEN as a whisper invites a gentle doe flowering her name across your heart?

SEEN series 2023-2024

Did you too see it, drifting, all night, on the black river?
Did you see it in the morning, rising into the silvery air -
An armful of white blossoms,
A perfect commotion of silk and linen as it leaned
into the bondage of its wings; a snowbank, a bank of lilies,
Biting the air with its black beak?
Did you hear it, fluting and whistling
A shrill dark music - like the rain pelting the trees - like a waterfall
Knifing down the black ledges?
And did you see it, finally, just under the clouds -
A white cross Streaming across the sky, its feet
Like black leaves, its wings Like the stretching light of the river?
And did you feel it, in your heart, how it pertained to everything?
And have you too finally figured out what beauty is for?
And have you changed your life?
